I can't say this was as fun as last week's car picnic, but hats off to the kids for going along with whatever activity we throw at them. As long as it's something "out of the ordinary" I think it helps.
While chilly, thankfully we were blessed with lots of sun today. We spent a few hours playing on the driveway and moving things around in the garage to make the toys more accessible. I also did a fair bit of shopping online this evening to stock up on outdoor activities - a new ladder ball set, washer toss game, and chalk. Would you believe that vendors on Amazon are actually price gouging for sidewalk chalk? Unbelievable! Thankfully I found some for a good price at Canadian Tire, so I ordered a few buckets to get us through the year. Sadly, I have started thinking months ahead, rather than weeks ahead.
The streets were particularly deserted during our evening walk. We only encountered one other family stretching their legs. Clearly they were also taking social distancing to heart, as we parted like the dead sea once we saw each other approaching. We mutually thanked one another for following the rules. I fear that soon these walks will end, all because of selfish individuals who refuse to take this seriously. I'm gobsmacked by people who can't look beyond their own wants right now. Being shut in by the military is a situation nobody looks forward to, but it may become necessary. We are already seeing it now in so many other countries.
In happier news, I have started using hydroponics to regrow vegetables. I have several romaine hearts well underway and some different herbs , kale and lettuce seeds beginning to sprout. I'm turning into quite the indoor gardener, but I look forward to getting everything outside in May. I think that secretly my hubby, who has always been into the whole zombie apocalypse thing, is finding my transition to "doomsday prepper" somewhat impressive.
